Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP)

PRP is a therapy which has been shown to be very beneficial in stimulating growth of healthy soft tissues and bone in human medicine. In particular, it has been used very successfully in reconstructive plastic surgery in patients having sustained severe injury to the skin, muscle, and bones of the face. The platelet portion of the blood is collected and concentrated from the patient to be treated, followed by injection of this concentrate into the injured area. The platelets are rich in growth factors and anti-inflammatory proteins which aid in healing. In veterinary medicine, although still in the early stages of use, this therapy has been successful used as therapy for ‘bowed’ tendons and other soft tissue injuries.
